The Castle Rock Downtown Alliance had the opportunity to sit down with Melissa Clement, the Owner of Mercantile by Farmgirl Foods. Here are some of our favorite questions that we got to discuss with Melissa.

Why did you choose Downtown/what attracted you to owning a business in Castle Rock?

  • I love the vibe of our little downtown! It is growing but still feels like a small town and that is why I chose to start my business here.

Tell us the story/background of your business. How did you end up running a business in your industry?

  • I was a corporate Event Planner for over 25 years, but I had a deep passion for food. About 15 years ago I was inspired by a little local market that opened near my house when I was briefly living on the East Coast, and I knew that that was my calling. It took several years and many life changes, but about 3 ½ years ago I started putting the plan in motion to make my dream come true.

Favorite thing about owning a small business?

  • I love connecting with our community and offering them unique items that they cannot really find in larger grocery stores. It’s always fun to inspire them with recipes or fun things to do with ingredients and then have them come back and tell me what they did with what they bought, and how much they enjoyed it.

What’s something unique that people may not know about you or your business?

  • We have almost ALL locally made Colorado products, including some made right here in Castle Rock, and most of our vendors are women, so it’s great to support so many women and see their businesses flourishing.

What’s the easiest way customers can support your small business right now?

  • We are open from 10-6 Monday-Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday. You can visit the shop downtown at 420 3rd Street or check us out online at www.mercantilebyfarmgirlfoods.com. We offer FREE local delivery in Castle Rock and Castle Pines and will be updating our online store very soon to include our vendors products as well as the Farmgirl favorites.

Help us #CelebrateCastleRock by liking, sharing and supporting #DowntownCastleRock Businesses.
