The Downtown Castle Rock Alliance had the opportunity to sit down with Jim DeLay, Flying Horse Catering General Manager. Below are a few of our favorite questions we got to discuss with Jim.
Why did you choose Downtown/what attracted you to owning a business in Castle Rock?
We live in Castle Rock and raised our girls here. This is home! We love the small town atmosphere of Downtown. We like to be involved and part of a small community, like Castle Rock.
Tell us the story/background of your business. How did you end up running a business in your industry?
I started in the restaurant business in high school and have made the food service and hospitality business my lifelong passion. My brother offered a partnership in Flying Horse Catering and we always called Castle Rock our home.
Favorite place to visit in Downtown Castle Rock (other business, park, trail, etc)
I love to climb Castle Rock in Rock Park and look down on Downtown Castle Rock and the Plum Creek Valley with Pikes Peak in the background.
What’s something unique that people may not know about you or your business?
I am the middle child of 9 children. Growing up, we rarely went to restaurants because I know we just could not afford it, so it was always a special event when we did go. Now, most of us take it for granted to be able to go out. I always strive to have every event we do be a special one for our guests.
What’s the easiest way customers can support your small business right now (promote yourself here, gift cards, hours, pick-up options, online commerce, etc).
We have taken some of our more popular catering items and scaled down to heat and serve meal packs for 4-6 people. Our model is a little different because they need to be ordered 1-2 days ahead, so they are made fresh for each guest. Look at our website (www.FlyingHorseCatering.com) for our curbside/delivery menu. Box lunches have been popular due to social distancing. We are doing catering also with certain restrictions on the serving and looking to evolve our menu to offer items that can be served properly and safely. Call us at 303-688-4321 to place your order! We appreciate the support our community has given us in this recent time.
Flying Horse Catering appreciates the support of the Castle Rock Community ranging from community members ordering curbside pick up, being active in the Castle Rock Community and the accessibility to Kiva Loans. You can support Flying Horse Catering right now by ordering takeout and curbside meals by calling 303-668-4321 or emailing info@flyinghorsecatering.com. Check out their delivery and pick up menu, specialty dinners and box lunches menu. Be sure to stop by to try something new and safely get a meal to-go!
